Suitland Parkway:
The Suitland Parkway is a 9.35-mile long scenic parkway from Andrews Air Force Base into DC on a limited access ROW. The southeastern part was originally a Super-2, but was widened to 4-lanes in the early 1990’s. The Washington DC portion is maintained by the city, and the Maryland portion is maintained by the National Park Service. Commercial vehicles are banned, though the route is used by all busses and by government trucks. The speed limit ranges from  35 to 50 mph and is enforced by park police. The parkway is often the first glimpse of the United States received by visiting foreign heads of state, as it connects Andrews Air Force base to Washington DC.

History:
Opened during World War II, on December 9, 1944. The 1949 legislation stated the purpose of the parkway in the following way: "The Parkway shall be developed, operated, and administered as a limited access road primarily to provide a dignified, protected, safe, and suitable approach for  passenger vehicle traffic to the National Capital and for an uninterrupted means of access between the several Federal establishments adjacent thereto and the seat of government in the District of Columbia." Today, the parkway is a national historic landmark and  a bike path has recently been built alongside the road.
