Glossary

MD 404:
MD 404's entire length is slated to be an expressway and in the 1960's it was proposed to be 4-laned. The only currently completed section is the Denton Bypass.

History and Construction Schedule:

Segment Activity
US 301 to Denton Access control purchase is an ongoing project and began in 2004. Engineering underway for an upgrade to a 4-lane divided expressway.
Denton Bypass Complete 1987
Legion Rd to Double Hills Rd (1 mile) Construction began 2001 and was completed in December 2003.
Double Hills Rd to MD 16 (1 mile) ROW purchase began 2001. Construction will begin in 2006.
MD 16 to Delaware border Access control purchase is an ongoing project and began in 2004.

MD 702:
This is a driveway-free expressway that was built along the ROW originally planned for I-695 before the route of that freeway was shifted further west.

History:

Date Status
1973 Freeway portion of MD 702 between US 40 and MD 150 built as I-695
July 1978 Freeway extension plans for MD 702 changed into plans for a partially limited access highway
1990 MD 702 extension opens with a speed limit of 40 mph
2000 Speed limit raised to 45 mph
