MS 1:
There is a short 5-lane arterial segment of MS 1 between MS 454 and southern Greenville. Construction began in 2002 on an extension of the 5-lane arterial south to MS 438.

 

MS 4 (Future):

US 61 to Senatobia 2-lane Highway 4-laning is a long-range proposal under Vision 21.
Senatobia Bypass City Street The contract was let in March 2003. Groundbreaking on the bypass, which will run from Shands Bottom Rd to I-55 to US 51, was held on May 20, 2003. The estimated completion date is August 25, 2005.
Senatobia to Holly Springs 2-lane Highway There are no plans to 4-lane this segment.
Holly Springs Bypass City Street Planning began in 1994. Construction began March 25, 2002. Phase one, from MS 311 east to MS 4, will be completed summer 2003. Phase two, which goes from US 78 west of town to MS 311, is currently under ROW purchase. The highway will have limited access ROW near intersections, but not along the entire bypass. There will be an overpass over MS 178. The highway is being built as a super-2.

I-55 to Water Valley 2-lane Highway 4-laning is an immediate priority under Vision 21.
Water Valley Bypass 4-lane Expressway  
Water Valley to MS 9W 2-lane Highway 4-laning is an immediate priority under Vision 21.
MS 9W to Oxford 2-lane Highway Engineering began in 2003. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase.
Oxford to Tennessee 2-lane Highway 4-laning is a long-range proposal under Vision 21. An interchange at US 72 was included in the STIP.

 

MS 8 (Future):

Holcombe to 2.65 miles west of I-55 2-lane Highway This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase.
2.65 miles west of I-55 to I-55 2-lane Highway Construction on this project began in 2004. It will become a 5-lane boulevard.

Holmes / Attala County Line to MS 429 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase.
MS 429 to Kosciusko 2-lane Highway Engineering began in 2001. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase. This segment will be built as a 5-lane boulevard.
Kosciusko to Starkville 2-lane Highway 4-laning is a mid-range proposal under Vision 21.

 

MS 14 (Future):

A Louisville Bypass is planned. Engineering began in 2005. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase. A proposed routing for the bypass runs from MS 25 north of town to MS 14 east of town.

 

MS 15:

One interesting project on MS 15 right now is the construction of an expressway through Stone and Perry Counties. No current alignment of MS 15 exists there. The new highway will pretty much go straight south from Beaumont, entering Stone County 6 miles east of MS 29. It will then curve southwest to the current north ending of the MS 15 2-lane road at MS 26. South of that, existing MS 15 will be widened.

Philadelphia Bypass 2-lane Highway There is currently a 2-lane bypass to the west of Philadelphia, running from MS 16 to old MS 15 north of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia to Neshoba / Winston County Line 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001. Public hearings for the route began in August 2003.
Neshoba / Winston County Line to Louisville 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001. Public hearings for the route began in August 2003.
Louisville Bypass 4-lane Expressway This bypass was built in the 1970’s. An interchange was added at the MS 15 / MS 25 split north of town opened on July 26, 2002.
Louisville to Houston 2-lane Highway 4-laning is an immediate priority under Vision 21.
Houston Bypass 2-lane Expressway Engineering began in 2005. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase.
Houston to MS 32 2-lane Highway Engineering began in 2005. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase. Public meetings where held on October 17 and 18, 2005 to discuss the route.
MS 32 to MS 6 2-lane Highway Engineering began in 2005. Public meetings where held on October 17 and 18, 2005 to discuss the route.
MS 6 to New Albany 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase.
Through New Albany City Street Engineering began before 2001 and ROW purchase began in 2002. This project is in the STIP for construction. A 5-lane boulevard will be constructed through the town.
New Albany to Union / Tippah County Line 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001 and ROW purchase began in 2002. This project is in the STIP for construction.
Union / Tippah County Line to Ripley 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase and construction.
Ripley to Falkner 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001. ROW purchase began in 2005. This project is in the STIP for construction.
Falkner to Walnut 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001.
Walnut to Tennessee 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001. Two possible alignments are being studied. Alternative B would widen MS 15 to a 5-lane boulevard through Walnut, while Alternative C would build a 4-lane expressway bypass. A public meeting has been held to present the alternatives.

MS 16 (Future):

US 49 to I-55 2-lane Highway 4-laning is a long-range proposal under Vision 21.
I-55 to Choctaw Reservation 2-lane Highway 4-laning is an immediate priority under Vision 21. A public meeting was held on October 11, 2005 in Canton to discuss the route.
Choctaw Reservation to MS 15 4-lane Boulevard The contract was awarded in August 2002. The highway opened on July 19, 2005.
Philadelphia Bypass City Street Approved by the legislature July 1986. It has been stalled since then because of disagreement over the routing. However, the final EIS will be complete by Fall 2004. One proposal calls for a signalized intersection with dual left turn lanes at MS 15 and a 6-ramp partial cloverleaf interchange at MS 19, although this may not be the design that the Final Environmental Impact Statement will support. This project is included in the STIP for ROW purchase.
Philadelphia to De Kalb 2-lane Highway There are no plans to 4-lane this segment.
De Kalb to US 45 2-lane Highway 4-laning is a long-range proposal under Vision 21.

 

MS 18:

MS 19:

Philadelphia to MS 492 2-lane Highway Engineering began in 2004. This project is in the STIP for ROW purchase. TEA-LU included one sum of $10 million of federal funding to be used for both widening projects along MS 19 between Philadelphia to Collinsville.
MS 492 to Collinsville 2-lane Highway Engineering began before 2001. ROW purchase began in 2005. This project is in the STIP for construction. TEA-LU included one sum of $10 million of federal funding to be used for both widening projects along MS 19 between Philadelphia to Collinsville.
Collinsville to I-20 / 59 4-lane Arterial to the edges of Meridian. 4-lane Boulevard through Meridian. If the proposed Northern Meridian Bypass is built, MS 19 will be rerouted along a new freeway to the west of the city. Some right of way for the bypass was purchased in the mid-70’s, but funding concerns led construction to be halted and the right of way to be resold. Support for construction of the bypass has resurfaced recently, and a traffic study currently underway may support construction of the new highway, which would connect to I-20 at Exit 129.
I-20 / 59 to US 45 4-lane Boulevard Complete circa 1990.
US 45 to MS 496 4-lane Boulevard Opened September 26, 2001.
MS 496 to Alabama 2-lane Highway MDOT District 5 has proposed extending the 4-lane highway eastward. However, the low priority of this project is reflected by the fact that it is not included in Vision 21.
