SC 38: (A “High Speed Arterial” of South Carolina)
Summary:
SC 38 is located in the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina. SC 38 is often used as a thru-route for Myrtle Beach via US 501. Most beach bound motorists using SC 9
often use SC 38 SOUTH to get onto US 501 SOUTH to reach Myrtle Beach and points south. Motorists that continue to use SC 9 instead of SC 38, go to North Myrtle Beach and beach points north (Brunswick County, NC beaches). SC 38 is a 4 lane divided high-speed arterial half of the time and the other half, a 5 lane high-speed arterial with a
continuous center turn lane from Bennettsville to I-95 with the exception of the greater Bennettsville area, points north of Bennettsville and in the town of Blenheim, Marlboro County. In the near future, from I-95 to US 501, the existing 2 lane road is slated for a 4 lane upgrade pending on future ROW and funding.
