SC 517 (Isle of Palms Connector):
Summary:
The Isle of Palms connector, located northeast of Charleston, is an expressway between US 17 and SC 703.
Detailed Description:
SC 517 is a highway that connects busy US 17 in Mt. Pleasant to the beach at Isle of Palms. Currently a 2 lane highway with a continuous non-center turn lane, SC 517 has three traffic signals as it travels along a 4 lane ROW. It crosses over the Intra
Coastal Waterway with two lanes, a center non-travel lane, and 8 foot right shoulders. Although the SC 703 bridge also connects Sullivans Island and Mt.Pleasant, the Isle of Palms connector gives motorists a more efficient hurricane evacuation route, allowing them to quickly connect to other hurricane evacuation routes such as I-526 via I-26 or SC 41.
