Leaving the community of Isle of Palms. SC 517 for its entire length is a 2 lane highway with a non travel center lane with roughly 3 foot right shoulders. The causeway bridge here is a few miles long, along which motorists are provided with full right shoulders and a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean.
Approaching inland, we are at the first signal at Rifle Range Road.
Development along SC 517 is prevalent in Mt. Pleasant as the town continues to grow. An " I-526 " sign directs motorists onto Market Ctr Drive to avoid congested US 17 through the mecca of retail stores. Market Ctr Drive did not connect to I-526 until very recently. If coming from I-526 towards towards the US 17 signal, instead of turning left to get to SC 517, continue straight and this will avoid traveling any stretch of US 17.

Iron Bridge Road(left)/Hungry Neck Blvd (right) signal. To the right is easy access to I-526, allowing motorists to avoid US 17 as it travels through the big box shopping areas between SC 517 and I-526.
