US 52: (A “High Speed Arterial” of South Carolina)

Summary:
US 52 runs from the North Carolina line to the city of Charleston via Meeting St. Due to its growing popularity with out of state motorists from the progression of I-73/74 being the main route from the Midwest, it is becoming a useable shortcut from the US 1/52 juncture in Cheraw to reach Florence (I-95). Motorists have a choice between continuing on US 52 directly to the greater Charleston area as a straighter route or take I-95 to I-26. US 52 has some drawbacks since it runs through several towns with very few bypasses with a 35mph speed limit. US 52 is mostly 60 mph high speed arterial between Florence and Moncks Corner with many segments having a continuous center turn lane and even 12 foot right shoulders, otherwise, a 4 lane divided high speed arterial with shoulders here and there.
