Wisconsin has been in an expressway building rush ever since 1989, when the Corridors 2020 plan designated high-priority routes as backbone and connector routes.

Many of these routes have been built as expressways, and many more are currently in planning or under construction.

Wisconsin has very high standards for its expressways, and many of them have 65 mph speed limits and no traffic lights.
